A number of years ago, I bartered my time and expertise for bellydance lessons. I made a few labour-intensive pieces for my instructor including this costume.
Steampunk Bellydance Costume - Modeled
The costume is a mix of modified pieces, chinese brocade and hardware. The dancer supplied the trousers and the bra base.

Chains wrap around from under the bust to the middle of the back.
Steampunk Bellydance Costume - Front
The bra straps were replaced with cotton twill tape threaded through o-rings. The chains drape nicely over the midriff and around the sides.

The choker worn by the dancer was created from leftover bits of chain, some beading findings and one of the discarded bra straps.

The lightweight decorative chain is hand-stitched into place.

Instead of fringe or coins, I use washers for movement and sound. They are looped onto waxed cord and securely hand-stitched into place.

The garters were constructed from s-hooks and grosgrain ribbon.
